Mass Hysteria in Upstate New York

Last August, 16-year-old Lori Brownell passed out while head-banging at a concert. A month later, she lost consciousness again at her school?s homecoming dance in upstate Corinth, N.Y. Brownell says her doctors put her on Celexa, but she only developed more symptoms, including involuntary twitching and clapping. In videos she posted to YouTube, Brownell flutters her fingers, touches her hair, snorts through her nose and throat, and shouts ?Hey, hey, hey,? seemingly without control. On Christmas Eve, doctors diagnosed her with Tourette?s Syndrome. Now, however, her symptoms have another name: conversion disorder, or mass hysteria.

Supplemental Disability Insurance

Supplemental disability insurance could be ideal to invest in, especially when you need a longer period of leave from your job such as during pregnancy, injury or sickness. As the name suggests, it is supplementary to short-term disability plan. It is ideal when you have bigger responsibilities on your shoulders while away from your work. Unlike short-term disability policies, supplementary excludes you being under doctor?s survey or continuous care. Further, your benefits can start post-waiting period depending on what you choose, which could be either from one week to 6 months.

?

Eligibility:

?

Eligibility rests on employment type, as different employment types demand different criterions. Most importantly, you need having a full time job for meeting the eligibility criteria of the supplementary disability. In fact, you may start with analyzing the eligibility rules before you enroll with supplemental disability insurance. What is the point in looking up the plan details and in the end finding that you are not eligible for the plan? Thus, it is recommended to first look at best disability insurance, reading about its eligibility criteria, as then becomes increasingly clear whether the plan is suitable for you or not. In case, the plan demands any specific demands, which you are not eligible to, then you may simply move to another that suits you the best with your eligibilities and needs.

?

Enrollment:

?

It is ideal to enroll in best disability insurance plans, when you foresee future dependence on them. That is, if you have a prior information about high requirement of cash before the event, then you may simply refer to enrolling yourself for the supplementary plans, as they can benefit you more specifically during the time you need them the most.

?

It is ideal to invest in best disability insurance plans within the coverage periods of one month from your initial eligibility. However, in case you miss out this, that is if you postponed the supplementary needs after the eligibility has passed, then you may have to submit a health statement covering information about your health and condition. Further, it is easy to enroll as well as cancel supplementary disability any time you wish. This flexibility can be an added advantage, but you may also consider the fact, that disabilities wait for none. Hence, instead of changing dates back and forth, you can save more benefits, if you plan your ways through it

?

Health Statement:

?

In case you give a miss to enroll within stipulated period of 31 days, then you require submitting additional documents such as health statements. A health statement plays a pivotal role for your insurance firm to derive your past medical information. It helps them to gauge the risks involved in lending you disability insurance coverage. Further, it also helps them declare your eligibility. In case, they found you as high-risk client, then there are chances that you may end up paying higher premiums. However, there is also a chance, that they may reject your enrollment if found ineligible as per the set of rules.

?

Coverage:

?

Supplemental disability insurance benefits you weekly during disability periods with cash benefits as high as 70% of your gross earnings. Further, the amount of benefit you fetch could vary depending on plan and your salary as well. Further, you can fetch supplementary benefits along with short-term disability benefits for the first six months. However, if you want to benefit supplementary along with short-term disability, then you need to have a continuous care or doctor?s supervision. In addition, if your disability lasts longer than 12 months consecutively, then it is termed as permanent disability and one may lose the benefits of short-term disabilities if long-term plan is not clubbed with it

?

Cost:

?

Disability insurance coverage cost is one of the most important criteria, which makes people opt for one policy over another. Indeed, cost plays a crucial role, as it is hardly wise to invest in plans having wide flexibilities but at a high cost. Thus, cost is equivalently important to look before you decide on investing into any plan.

?

Salary Hike:

?

In case your salary increases, then it may not extend to your supplementary disability or disability insurance coverage, unless first day of the year comes. Thus, you can expect a hike only after new-year calendar sets in. Further the above holds true, in case you switch from full time to part time without changing the rate of pay. That is, you cannot expect a change of rate in supplementary disability benefits, even if you downgrade your fulltime job to part time when per hour income rate remains unchanged.

(AP) ? A retired colonel who attempted to take over Papua New Guinea's military and ordered the prime minister to step down has been arrested and charged with mutiny.

Police spokesman Dominic Kakas said Yaura Sasa was arrested Saturday night in a suburb of Port Moresby, the capital. A court spokesman said Sasa was charged with mutiny and appeared in court Sunday.

Sasa led a small group of soldiers in a mutiny Thursday in which the military's top commander was briefly held under house arrest. The mutiny was part of a power struggle in which Prime Minister Peter O'Neill and former Prime Minister Michael Somare claim to be the rightful leader of the South Pacific nation.

Sasa demanded that O'Neill step down within a week to make way for Somare, who appointed Sasa defense chief after being removed from office.

Kakas said the soldiers who followed Sasa had not been arrested.

Parliament replaced Somare with O'Neill in August while Somare was getting medical treatment outside the country. Papua New Guinea's Supreme Court sided with Somare last month, but O'Neill continues to have support from lawmakers.

Somare issued a statement Sunday repeating his call to be reinstated, and calling on police and the military to join him.

Wagner wins 1st title in night of flawed skating

(AP) ? Ashley Wagner is the "Almost Girl" no more.

Wagner won her first title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Saturday, salvaging what was an otherwise dismal night of splats and spills with a majestic rendition of "Black Swan." She finished with a score of 187.02 points and then watched as two-time champion Alissa Czisny and Agnes Zawadzki melted down.

When the final results were posted, tears filled Wagner's eyes and she rested a hand on the shoulder of coach John Nicks. She beamed when she climbed to the top of the podium, her smile as bright as the gold medal around her neck.

"I can't even describe how happy I am," Wagner said. "It's been since the junior Grand Prix circuit since I've been on top of a podium, and I almost forgot what it felt like. When I got up on the podium today, it was an incredible feeling and made me realize why I do this crazy sport."

Czisny finished second and Zawadzki wound up third. Earlier Saturday, Meryl Davis and Charlie White claimed their fourth straight title with a performance that showed why they set the gold standard in ice dance these days. The world champions' elegant and seamless routine to "Die Fledermaus" earned a total score of 191.54 points, nearly 13 better than siblings Maia and Alex Shibutani.

The U.S. has been looking for someone ? anyone ? with the star power and skill to carry the Americans like Michelle Kwan did for almost a decade. The Americans have gone five years without a medal at the world championships, and they came home empty-handed from the Vancouver Olympics. For the fourth straight year, they'll have only two spots at the world championships.

It's a drought the likes of which the Americans have never experienced, and the shortcomings were made all the more glaring this week by Kwan's return to nationals to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Wagner has never been shy about saying she wants to be the best in the U.S., a skater who can hold her own against the Russians and the Japanese.

"No one's going to say they don't want to be national champion so I think I'm not being cocky, I'm just saying what everyone else is thinking," Wagner said. "No one goes into nationals saying, 'I don't want to be a gold medalist, third place is good enough for me.' Why not say what you're thinking instead of putting on an act?"

But she always seemed to come up just short, finishing third in 2010 and missing a spot on the Olympic team. She also was third in 2008.

Hence that "Almost Girl" nickname.

Wagner had a particularly rough season last year. A head injury from when she was 13 was never treated properly, and the bones in her neck began pressing into her spinal cord, setting off "crippling body tremors." It took two hours of therapy each day with a chiropractor to correct the problem.

When the season ended, Wagner decided she needed to make a radical change if she was ever going to achieve the goals she wanted. She left her family and friends on the East Coast and moved to Southern California to train with Nicks, best known as Sasha Cohen's coach.

"I was really nervous going out there because I felt like it was getting to the point where I wanted it so bad," Wagner said. "Then I remembered that I've made all these changes for a reason. I've learned so much in my time in California and I needed to use that new training. Mr. Nicks has done a great job of helping me refocus."

Third after the short program, Wagner needed a spectacular performance and some help from others. She did her part, a refreshing departure after a night of lackluster, one-dimensional performances. Wagner actually used her music and her portrayal of the "Black Swan" character was so vivid, it's a wonder feathers didn't pop out of her back. Her technical elements were woven right in with her artistic elements, rather than standing alone as individual tricks, and she could have been a swan floating on the lake for how elegantly she moved across the ice.

She wasn't perfect, popping a triple salchow and touching her free foot down on her triple flip.

But it hardly mattered. None of the other top women skated cleanly, though some were much worse than others.

Czisny got off to rough start, putting her hand down on her opening triple lutz, and things didn't improve after that. She fell on her second triple lutz and was crooked in the air on a few other jumps. She was saved by her spins, which were gorgeous as always, high component marks for her elegant presentation.

"I'm not really sure what to think about tonight," a subdued Czisny said. "I knew the program I put out there tonight wasn't my best, wasn't what I wanted to do. At the same time, I guess it got me where I needed to be."

Zawadzki won the short program, and looked early on as she might hang onto the top spot. She opened with a double axel-triple toe loop combination that was bigger and smoother than any other jump done any other woman did Saturday night. But Zawadzki is just 17, two years removed from winning the junior title, and she quickly became overwhelmed by the moment.

"I think I started getting a little ahead of myself instead of staying in the present," she said.

She fell twice, crashing on a triple lutz and a triple salchow, and popped a triple toe that was supposed to be the opening jump of a combination. She also brushed up against the boards on a triple lutz-double toe combination. She dropped all the way to seventh in the long program and barely managed to hold off Caroline Zhang for third place.

"I've never been in this position so it's a different feeling for me," Zawadzki said. "I'm happy with what I've accomplished. I'm a little down on the long but happy with the overall result."

Wagner's next challenge will be at the world championships in March. Wagner and Czisny will need to finish with a combined placement of 13 to earn the Americans to spots at next year's all-important world championships, the qualifier for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

"I was on the team that lost the spot, so I really would like to be on the team that gains that spot back. I think that would be nice to tie that back up and put an end to my mistakes," said Wagner, who was 16th in 2008. "It's time the United States makes a claim in women's figure skating, and I think we have the talent here, we have the skaters. We just need to be able to go out there and put out consistent programs with triple-triples and show people that ladies figure skating in the U.S. is not over."

Chris Weidman: From parents? basement to network TV

CHICAGO -- Ten months ago, Chris Weidman was living in his parents' basement with his wife and daughter. After winning three straight fights in the UFC, he will challenge Demian Maia on the UFC's second show on network television.

At Wednesday's open workouts for UFC on Fox 2, Weidman said he has not had time to sit back and think about all he's accomplished in such a short time.

"I really haven't set back to think about it all in a 10-month period. It started getting tough. Any amount of money at that point was going to get me to come," Weidman said.

When he took the fight with Alessio Sakara last March, he was on the verge of signing with Bellator. He even had dinner reservations to celebrate the signing, but gave himself more time to consider the contract. Waiting opened the door for the UFC to sign him.

By July, he had a decision over Sakara and a submission of Jesse Bongfeldt, and a new home for his wife and now two-year-old daughter Cassidy.

Weidman's spot on the card this weekend was just as surprising. When Mark Munoz was injured last week, the UFC had to scramble to create a card that would make people tune in to Fox. Michael Bisping was given the spot against Chael Sonnen, leaving a hole on the card to fight Maia. Weidman, who beat Tom Lawlor in November, was called.

"At the time, I was surprised, because I thought I was going to fight April 22. But I had a funny feeling that something was going to end up happening.

The bout against Maia was too good to pass up, even on 10 days notice.

"At first it was that I'm not going to fight him this week. I'm going to fight him eventually. March, April. Once I talked to my coach and decided that, they came back and said he doesn't want to leave this card. I got so excited to fight Maia at that point, I didn't care where or when."

His first concern was weight. Weidman said he was around 217 lbs. last week. Though he says that his weight is fine now, he had to turn down the comfort food his wife was cooking.

"First thing was my weight. My wife was making sloppy joes, and I was like, 'No more sloppy joes for me!' I headed to the gym, ate a spoonful of peanut butter, and that's it for me."

Beating Maia, an accomplished grappler, would push Weidman ever closer to a title shot. Though fighters taking bouts on short notice are often in a no-lose situation, Weidman sees this bout as a must-win.

"I don't see it [as no-lose]. I see it as I have to win this fight. If I win this fight, it puts me on a list of contenders, and closer to getting that belt."

His intention is not to just fight for the UFC middleweight belt, but also to fight in his home state of New York. Currently, MMA is illegal in New York.

"My main goal is obviously to not only get the belt, but fight at Madison Square Garden in New York. It would be a dream come true. They have to legalize it, but at the right time so I can be fighting on it for the belt."

Weidman hopes the shows on Fox will help change perceptions on fighters.

"We're 100 percent athletes. Just turn on the TV and watch us. Come meet us. We're not those guys 10 years ago who were perceived as brutal. We're athletes. Good guys. Trying to make a living for our families."

Long Island's Weidman hopes to start New York on its winning ways. As a New York Giants fan, Weidman wants to see his team win the Super Bowl.

"I like Tom Brady, he's a pretty good guy, but we're coming after him."

Fed says no rate hikes until at least late 2014

By msnbc.com news services

The U.S. Federal Reserve said Wednesday it will not raise interest rates until at least late 2014, even later than investors expected, in an effort to support a sluggish economic recovery.

Without making major shifts to its outlook for the economy, the central bank described the unemployment rate as still elevated and said it expects inflation to remain at levels consistent with stable prices.

During a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said the 2014 forecast is simply the Fed?s ?best guess.?

Bernanke said the central bank?s ability to forecast that far out is limited, and that the Fed could adjust the time frame if economic conditions change. Still, he added, all signs suggest the Fed won?t change its record-low rate for nearly three years.

?Unless there is a substantial strengthening of the economy in the near term, it's a pretty good guess we will be keeping rates low for some time,? Bernanke said.

The central bank has kept its key rate at a record low near zero for about three years.

In a statement following a two-day meeting, the Fed depicted business investment as having slowed, downgrading its assessment from the December meeting.

Economic conditions "are likely to warrant exceptionally low levels for the federal funds rate at least through late 2014," the central bank said in its statement.

Richmond Fed President Jeffrey Lacker, an inflation hawk who rotated into a voting seat this year, dissented against the decision. He preferred to omit the description of the time period for ultra-low rates.

If the Fed can convince financial markets it will be on hold longer than they had anticipated, long-term interest rates could drop as investors price in the new information.

"A significant contingent of the committee views this exercise not so much as a process improvement but more as an opportunity to ease again via the forward rate communications channel," Stephen Stanley, an economist at Pierpoint Securities, said ahead of the Fed's announcement.

Separately, the Fed cut its outlook for economic growth in 2012, but was more optimistic about the unemployment rate. It also took the historic step of setting an inflation target, of 2 percent, a victory for Chairman Ben Bernanke that brings the Fed in line with many of the world's other major central banks.

While forecasters expect the U.S. economy grew at a 3 percent annual rate in the last three months of 2011, they look for growth of just around 2 percent this year.

Fed officials appear likely to bide their time in determining whether more monetary stimulus is needed. Many economists expect they will eventually decide on another spurt of Fed bond buying?-- probably one focused on mortgage debt.

In response to the deepest recession in generations, the Fed slashed the overnight federal funds rate to near zero in December 2008. It has also more than tripled the size of its balance sheet to around $2.9 trillion through two separate bond purchase programs.

The policy is credited with having prevented an even more devastating downturn, but it has been insufficient to bring unemployment down to levels considered normal during good economic times.

In December, the U.S. jobless rate stood at 8.5 percent, and some 13 million Americans were still actively looking for work but could not find it.

Reuters contributed to this report.

Lorain Council waives residency requirement for new mayor?s top aide

LORAIN ? Chase Ritenauer?s first business day as mayor Tuesday was going poorly.

Ritenauer had spent the day with a skeleton staff until he could get City Council members to waive residency requirements and approve job descriptions for his top administrators.

?Being a mayor without a staff is not fun,? he told Council members at their Tuesday night meeting.

Council approved the job descriptions and waived the residency requirement for the safety-service director, but added a requirement that the director move to Lorain within a year. Ritenauer said that was a deal breaker for his top candidate for the job, whom he hopes to name today.

He asked for a do-over, minus the one-year stipulation.

?Vote the way you need to vote,? he said. ?But I?d appreciate a vote, if it can be reconsidered, up or down, on the entire residency rule.?

Council members complied, and only Councilman Bret Schuster, D-4th Ward, and Councilman Craig Snodgrass, D-8th Ward, voted against waiving the residency requirement. Snodgrass had initially proposed the one-year stipulation, saying it was a reasonable amount of time to move to Lorain.

Audience member and Lorain resident Harry Williamson agreed.

?If your wages and your salaries are coming out of the city of Lorain, then you should live in the city of Lorain,? he told Council members and Ritenauer.

A 2009 Ohio Supreme Court decision said municipal employees aren?t required to live in the communities where they work, and Auditor Ronald Mantini said 60 percent to 70 percent of city workers don?t live in Lorain, but Law Director Pat Riley said the court ruling didn?t apply to the safety and service director positions.

Most Council members said Ritenauer should be free to hire whomever he wanted.

?Tying his hands (on) Day One, I think, would be doing a disservice to what he was elected to do,? said Councilman Tim Howard, D-3rd Ward. ?If we see that this isn?t working, then my only concern is that he pull the plug on that situation immediately.?

Ritenauer is merging the safety and service director positions, which were separate under former Mayor Tony Krasienko. Ritenauer said the merger made sense because the director will be supported by an executive assistant and an executive assistant to the mayor, plus a secretary who will aid the mayor and director.

However, Councilman Brian Gates, D-1st Ward, said he?d consulted with past safety and service directors who disagreed with a merged position.

?It?s too big a responsibility for one position,? he said.

Ritenauer also is creating a chief of staff and human resources/risk management administrator, both of whom will report to the director. The positions were formerly deputy safety director and deputy service director titles that Ritenauer said didn?t accurately describe their job duties and led to a ?disjointed? and ?fragmented? administration.

He said the changes will not cost taxpayers more money and will improve service to residents and communication with Council.

Iowa leaders Romney, Paul leave stage to rivals (AP)

DES MOINES, Iowa ? The two leading Republican presidential candidates in Iowa left the stage to their rivals to make their final pitches to voters just three days before the state's Republican caucus.

Mitt Romney was to campaign in New Hampshire on Saturday while Ron Paul was taking time off in his home state of Texas. Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum and Rick Perry all remained in Iowa, touring the state as they worked to win over the many still-undecided conservative voters.

Romney and Paul are absent, but they're poised to do well here. Both are leading in polls and have the money and organization to turn supporters out to caucus Tuesday night.

But with just days until voters begin to select the GOP nominee, the other candidates are still fighting in a volatile race that's seen candidate after candidate rise only to quickly fall. The same polls suggest large numbers of Iowa Republicans could change their minds before the first test of the 2012 campaign.

Santorum is the latest to draw intense interest. He has been rising in polls and drawing larger and larger crowds in recent days. The once resurgent Gingrich has fallen behind as negative ads have battered him on the airwaves and in mailboxes.

Bachmann's campaign has struggled. She's lost key staffers and some activists have urged her to drop out of the race. Perry, meanwhile, has spent millions on TV ads and is continuing a bus tour that consumed much of December.

Romney will return to Iowa later Saturday and will hold events in the western part of the state in areas he won when he first ran for president four years ago.

On Friday, he focused on Paul ? his closest rival in recent polling ? calling the Texas congressman out of step with most Republicans.

"I don't think Ron Paul represents the mainstream of Republican thought with regards to issues, particularly in foreign policy," Romney told Fox News.

Paul planned to spend the weekend out of Iowa. Campaigning Friday, he said he would have trouble voting for any of his Republican rivals if they won the nomination.

"They all are part of the status quo," he said.

Gingrich, now struggling, has said he wouldn't vote for Paul.

The usually combative former House speaker made headlines Friday when he broke down and wept as he talked about his mother's end-of-life illnesses.

"I do policy much easier than I do personal," Gingrich told an audience of women as he tried to regain his composure. The tears flowed as he responded to questions about his mother from a pollster and longtime political ally.

"My whole emphasis on brain science comes in directly from dealing with the real problems of real people," he said, his face distorting as he began to cry. "And so it's not a theory. It's, in fact, my mother."

Kathleen "Kit" Gingrich died in 2003. She was 77.

Whatever the impact of Gingrich's tears on the race for the White House, the video clip seemed destined to be played repeatedly on television and the Internet.

Mexico says US TV producer's extradition pending

(AP)? MEXICO CITY ? Mexico says it has been notified of a U.S. court ruling to extradite an American reality show producer charged with murdering his wife during a 2010 Mexican vacation, but says the date for the hand-over is still pending.

Mexico's Attorney General's Office said Friday an agreement has been reached on the extradition of Bruce Beresford-Redman, but "the date for his delivery is still pending."

Earlier this week, the producer's lawyer said he was dropping his fight against the extradition, after a Los Angeles federal court ruling upheld it.

The lawyer said the one-time "Survivor" producer could be sent to Mexico within 60 days following review of the extradition request by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Afghan president welcomes US remarks on Taliban

Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Saturday welcomed remarks from the Obama administration saying that Taliban insurgents were not America's enemies.

Earlier this month, Vice President Joe Biden said in an interview with Newsweek magazine that the Islamist militants did not represent a threat to U.S. interests unless they continued to shelter al-Qaida.

Biden's comments came amid reports that the Obama administration and other governments are trying to establish a peace process with the Taliban to help end the 10-year war.

"I am very happy that the American government has announced that the Taliban are not their enemies," Karzai said in a speech to the Afghan Academy of Sciences. "We hope that this message will help the Afghans reach peace and stability."

A senior U.S. official has told The Associated Press that Washington plans to continue a series of secret meetings with Taliban representatives in Europe and the Persian Gulf region next year.

The U.S. outreach this year had progressed to the point that there was active discussion of two steps the Taliban seeks as precursors to negotiations, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue.

Trust-building measures under discussion involve setting up a Taliban headquarters office and the release from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, of about five Afghan prisoners believed affiliated with the Taliban.

On Tuesday, Karzai said his government would accept the Taliban establishing a liaison office in Turkey, Qatar or Saudi Arabia for the purpose of holding peace talks.

Meanwhile, NATO troops on Saturday handed over responsibility for security in three districts of the embattled southern Helmand province to Afghan forces.

Helmand governor's office said these included Marjah district - the site of a major offensive by coalition forces last year. Coalition operations to rout the Taliban in February 2010 yielded slower than expected returns, but a troop buildup later in the year pushed insurgents out of the main center of the district.

Nad Ali, which had been run by British troops, also transitioned from NATO to Afghan security control, a statement said.

The handovers in Helmand are part of the second phase in a transition NATO and Karzai hope will leave Afghan forces in control of the entire country by the end of 2014, when the U.S.-led coalition's combat mission is scheduled to end.

Meanwhile, in London the Ministry of Defense announced that one of the two NATO service members killed in Afghanistan on Friday was a British soldier. The death brought to 394 the number of British troops who have died since the start of operations in Afghanistan in 2001.

A total of 27 NATO troops have died so far in December, while the year's toll is 543. The yearly total is considerably lower than for 2010, when more than 700 troops died.

Associated Press writer Rahim Faiez contributed to this report.

No one hurt after camera falls at Insight Bowl (AP)

TEMPE, Ariz. ? Flying cameras have been providing unique perspectives on everything from golf to college and professional football for more than a decade, becoming so commonplace that fans rarely notice the whizzing remote-controlled devices.

At the Insight Bowl on Friday night, no one could miss the overhead camera when it came crashing down to the field late in the fourth quarter, nearly taking out one of the players.

The ESPN camera narrowly missed Iowa receiver Martin McNutt Jr., who became entangled in the guide wire but wasn't hurt.

"First, I looked: `What is it that fell from the sky?'" McNutt said after Iowa's 31-14 loss to No. 19 Oklahoma. "The next thing I know, the camera kind of scratched me a little bit. It was just pulling me and I knew I didn't want to keep going with it."

The camera at the Insight Bowl was supplied by SkyCam, a division of Winnercomm, Inc., a sports production and development company in Tulsa, Okla. According to the company's website, SkyCam is the only stabilized camera system in the world that can unobtrusively fly anywhere in a defined three-dimensional space.

The camera is 36 inches high, weighs 25 pounds and travels up to 30 mph across the guide wire, according to the company.

"We apologize for the accident," ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said Saturday. "The independent company that operates SkyCam for us is in the midst of a thorough review to determine the cause of the problem. We will work with them and bowl officials to determine our future course of action. As always our primary concern will be the safety of fans and those on the field."

ESPN has consistently used the cameras for football coverage, making it a staple of "Monday Night Football." The cameras also have been used occasionally in the NBA, NHL, NASCAR, NCAA basketball, baseball and at the island-green 17th hole at the TPC Sawgrass during The Players Championship.

The cameras, despite flying over the playing field, have rarely interfered with the action.

In 2007, a cable camera was forced to make a controlled descent during an NFL game between the New Orleans Saints and the Seattle Seahawks from what was called human error.

At the 2009 Las Vegas bowl between BYU and Oregon State, the overhead camera reportedly had to be taken down due to wind gusts of around 40 mph.

The incident at the Insight Bowl occurred with Iowa trying to rally from a 10-point deficit in the closing minutes.

While lining up for a play near the 20-yard line at the south end of Sun Devil Stadium, two Hawkeyes had to jump out of the way when the camera fell when the wire appeared to snap with 2:22 left.

McNutt dodged the camera as it fell behind him, but became entangled in the guide wire after it thudded to the ground. McNutt suffered only a minor scratch, but the game was delayed for about five minutes as crews dragged the camera off the field and made sure the wire was out of the way.

McNutt was able to joke about the incident.

"I fell like somebody was trying to kill me on their (Oklahoma's) staff," he said. "If you are looking, I'm looking for you. No. It was lucky it didn't hit me."
