A leader in Truth | Workplace Communication

Article by Miguel de Jesus

For business strategies to succeed in any organization, telling the truth should be a norm. An organization should foster a safe haven for telling facts and allow members to speak the reality without having to risk persecution or conflict between co-members or supervisors. Effective leadership in business dictates that being trustworthy increases the influence of an organization. This includes keeping a leader?s word and honesty in disclosing facts and metrics without spinning or twisting. Maintaining an honest organization has more benefits, it allows team members to acknowledge their strengths and weaknesses, so they feel the freedom to ask for assistance when they require it without worry. It gives a sense of security, a form of guilt free environment where each team member can admit their mistakes.Ultimately when it boils down to matters of integrity, a compelling practice of words coupled with practice will go a long way. Leaders must behave honestly and practice fairness in ensuring that actions and beliefs are consistent and believable. Many leadership development practices explore the utilization of five leadership dimensions- motivation, rewards, charisma, consideration and structure in creating employee job satisfaction, team commitment and overall success. There is no doubt that one of the most important behaviors that a leader must influence to positively influence employee attitude is consideration, which includes treating employees with respect and valuing their contributions. An effective leader treats everyone in the team with fairness, applying the same set of key performance indicators for all. When the team reaches a milestone, a leader must make sure to recognize the team?s success instead of focusing on individual achievements. Leaders who are good at building successful teams do so by focusing on human needs; helping with their problems and offering psychological support as well as caring about members by expressing warmth, joy, happiness and enthusiasm within the interaction process.
